Troubleshooting using the Test Connection feature for Olarm Video

Info
The Test Connection feature in the Olarm APP helps verify that your camera or video recorder is properly connected to your Olarm MAX before completing the setup. This feature checks each stage of the video connection process and highlights where a failure may be occurring, making it easier to identify and resolve configuration issues.

The Test Connection button appears at the bottom of the camera setup screen. Once you’ve entered the required details (such as the IP address, RTSP port, credentials, and stream settings), you can use this feature to validate the connection.

The test runs through three steps in sequence:

  1. Connected to Camera

  2. Authenticated Camera

  3. Stream Established

NotesEach step must succeed before the next can begin. If a step fails, the process stops, and you'll be able to troubleshoot based on where it failed.

Step 1: Connected to Camera - Possible Causes for Failure

  • The Olarm MAX and the camera system are not on the same Wi-Fi network.

  • The IP address is incorrect.

  • The RTSP port number is incorrect.

  • The camera channel number or stream type is not accessible.

  • The login credentials are incorrect.

  • H264 is not selected as the video encoding/compression format.

Step 2: Authenticated Camera - Possible Causes for Failure

  • The credentials entered are incorrect.

  • The user credentials lack admin-level RTSP streaming rights.

  • The camera system has encryption enabled.

  • The RTSP streaming URL is incorrect.

Step 3: Stream Established - Possible Causes for Failure

  • The camera system has encryption enabled.

  • There is a weak Wi-Fi connection or high packet loss affecting the video stream.

AlertIf the Test Connection fails entirely

If none of the steps are completed and the test immediately displays a Failed pop-up, possible reasons include:

  • H264 has not been selected as the streaming format.

  • The camera system and the Olarm MAX are not connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

Extra Tips

  • Always verify that your camera supports RTSP streaming.

  • Confirm that H264 is enabled as the encoding format for the relevant stream.

  • Make sure the camera is on the same local network as the Olarm MAX during setup.

  • Use correct and up-to-date admin-level credentials for RTSP access.
