Setting up a Hikvision IP camera for Olarm MAX Video

Info
Requirements for Video on Olarm MAX
  1. The Olarm MAX requires strong or good Wi-Fi signal to stream cameras
  2. The Olarm MAX and your camera setup need to be on the same Wi-Fi network
  3. Please ensure the Wi-Fi network has 2.4Ghz enabled
  4. The Olarm MAX won’t stream video using it’s cellular connectivity
  5. The Olarm MAX needs to be on firmware version V.1.5.1 or later to support video
  6. Your camera setup requires an adjustable substream
  7. Ensure your camera setup has a static IP Address
  8. Playback will only work should your DVR/NVR support it

Step 1: Adjust your camera settings

Adjust your Hikvision camera’s substream settings by using your camera’s Video Management System or logging into the camera’s settings directly through it's IP Address and assigned camera credentials.
Alert
Adjusting these settings will impact the video quality on the other platforms used for streaming

Logging into the Camera/DVR/NVR with the IP Address & credentials

Should you be using the Hikvision Video Management System, adjust the substream video settings in the Configuration tab under the heading Video/Audio

Adjust the substream’s video settings as follows:
  1. Ensure you are adjusting the correct camera’s settings
  2. Ensure you are adjusting the “Sub-Stream” type
  3. Video type needs to only be “Video stream” and not Video&Audio
  4. Reduce the “Resolution” to the lowest available option
  5. Set the “Video quality” to Medium or Low
  6. Set the “Bitrate Type” to Constant
  7. Reduce the “Frame Rate” to around 8 fps
  8. Set the “Max. Bitrate” to 264 Kbps
  9. Ensure the “Video Encoding” is set to H.264
Info
The settings adjusted reduce the quality of video to ensure the Olarm MAX can handle the size of the video stream.
